M2ACT × HELVETIAROCKT

16th/17th of October 2025

@Kaserne Basel, kHaus & Parterre One

Awareness, Agency & Accountability in Music and Performing Arts

Helvetiarockt, Migros Culture Percentage m2act and Kaserne Basel jointly invite you to the national network meeting m2act × Helvetiarockt: Awareness, Agency & Accountability in Music and Performing Arts. The meeting focuses on the topic of sexualised violence in the Swiss cultural scene.

Cultural institutions and events are central locations for artistic production, experience and encounters. At the same time, however, they are also spaces in which people experience gender-based discrimination and sexualised violence. Specific working conditions in the performing arts and contemporary music – such as physical proximity, emotional intensity, precarious employment relationships, dependencies and informal power structures – harbour additional risks. The network meeting is dedicated to this reality, exploring the following questions among others:

  • What (awareness) strategies can help people recognise, name and prevent discriminiatory and abusive behaviour, and how can they be implemented in institutions and groups?

  • How can we strengthen individual self-determination and agency? How is consent integrated into everyday working life? And how do you become an ally?

  • What does it mean to take accountability for structural and sexualised violence as an individual or organisation, and what intervention options exist?

The one-and-a-half-day network meeting brings together cultural actors from the performing arts and contemporary music. It creates space for exchange, solidarity and community. Prevention, intervention and possible actions are explained, support services are presented, good practices are shared. Through workshops, a keynote speech, discussions, the Empowerment Space, a marketplace and theater performances, knowledge about sexualised violence is made accessible to everyone.
